Some members of Demokrative were able to spend the days from 29.11. to 04.12. in Andalusia and put the games of our DEMOGAMES project to an important test run. A nice week at 20 degrees and sunshine by the sea!
In addition to the Demokrative project staff (Robert Lovell, Johanna Flach and Patrik Kessler) and the game developers from our partner organisations, more than 20 young people came with us to Spain. We also brought 5 young adults from Switzerland who put our game prototypes and debriefing concepts through their paces.
The conclusion of the week was quite clear. The games are fun and not only that, you also learn a lot. Through the games and the intercultural exchange with young people from different European countries (Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Spain and Switzerland), the participants learned many new values, attitudes and skills and were able to improve their knowledge and understanding of democracy.
But we and our partner organisations also benefited and can now make DEMOGAMES even better thanks to the valuable feedback from our test persons. For example, it is now clear that the game Utopia, which we developed and which was tested for the first time in Almuñécar, is a lot of fun, but still takes far too long. In addition, a one-day project meeting among partner organisations took place immediately after participants had left and important next steps for DEMOGAMES were planned.
Many thanks to all participants for enthusiastically playing and testing, many thanks to our partner organisations (Da2 Trucados, DARE, CGE Erfurt, GIGA, IIT) for the organisation and especially to our Spanish colleagues for allowing us to be their guests and to escape the Swiss winter for a week.
We are already looking forward to the next project meeting in Romania. More information will be coming soon!
